I want to start a discussion about Patrol Ops and all the parameters we could tweak pretty easily.

What do you guys think about maybe disabling or limiting the halo jump, respawns and rally points.
The thing is now that it's so much easier and quicker to respawn than wait for the medic to come and heal you up. That makes playing as the medic kinda pointless.

I think the gameplay would get more realistic and harder, cuz you would really have to worry about dying a lot more.

Obviously after dying and respawning it would require the transport guy to get you back in to the action.
Which as you know, I wouldn't mind playing that role :D

Another thing I noticed when going thro the files in PO folder is that it might be possible to increase the enemy skill level. Might be worth looking at.

Any other ideas? anyone?

I'm too new to this to give you any valuable feedback, Jay Bee.

I agree though that just respawning quickly doesn't do justice for the rest of the realism. As far as I'm concerned you just go with what you feel is best, and I'll happily join the games :)

Fewer respawns was much improved last night.

Further recommendations would include:
- making the AI smarter than your common rock
- restricting weapon selection. Can't help but feel like we "break" the AI when we start sniping them from 1000m... especially with silenced weapons.
- refraining from "oh shit, our truck just blew up and we can't complete the mission!" "Don't worry, i'll respawn another..."
- might want to consider limited or no halo jumps. I know that once i start halo jumping, i start worrying less about dying.
- limited timed access to the weapons boxes!! LOL! You assholes take to damned long. By the time you guys are suited up, i'm already frothing at the mouth and doing donuts on an ATV to compensate...
- try to have everyone in the same unit doing similar things. It was nice all working together last night. Normally we end up with one guy sniping, one guy wanting to close in, one guy waiting at the base waiting in his heli (boring!!) and another guy blowing everything up with an A-10. Last night was the most fun i'd had in arma in a while.
- injuries seemed better last night. Despite making the medic class useless... it was nice being able to help each other out.

My $0.01. I know it's not worth $0.02. I'll rant more later.

At least your providing feedback and I appreciate that.
(edit: Sorry Steve, we were typing at the same time :D )

Last night we noticed that the "casualty" counter wasn't resetting when we got a new mission.. But I've seen it do that in the past.
Maybe you actually have to complete a mission to reset the counter.

So I was thinking that instead of reducing acceptable casualties we could increase the respawn time so there would be a penalty for dying.

Could be worth a shot playing with the files a little bit, but I've heard that if you increaase their skill, they might become "one shot, one kill from 700m out"
- restricting weapon selection. Can't help but feel like we "break" the AI when we start sniping them from 1000m... especially with silenced weapons.
I agree. I think it's possible to restrict weapon types for each class.
- refraining from "oh shit, our truck just blew up and we can't complete the mission!" "Don't worry, i'll respawn another..."
Bad mission design :D (no pun intended)
- might want to consider limited or no halo jumps. I know that once i start halo jumping, i start worrying less about dying.
Agree. But how do you get back to the combat after a respawn? Well there's a HALO jump script in mission commander, if no transport is available.
- limited timed access to the weapons boxes!! LOL! You assholes take to damned long. By the time you guys are suited up, i'm already frothing at the mouth and doing donuts on an ATV to compensate...
I was planning on building an off road course near the base. But other than that, I think you're gonna have to resolve that by yourself. Maybe take the ants off of your pants or something :D
- try to have everyone in the same unit doing similar things. It was nice all working together last night. Normally we end up with one guy sniping, one guy wanting to close in, one guy waiting at the base waiting in his heli (boring!!) shut up, roll over and die LOL and another guy blowing everything up with an A-10. Last night was the most fun i'd had in arma in a while.
If ya wanna take that away from me, I might as well uninstall the game. BUT I kinda see where you coming from
- injuries seemed better last night. Despite making the medic class useless... it was nice being able to help each other out.
It can be made that only Medics can use medkits, epi and morphine. Not sure how realistic that would be tho

Well your $0.01 aint even €0.01, but I'll take it LMAO

Thanks

Hehe... i wasn't complaining as it was late. :) If we couldn't have airlifted something in, we should have gotten a failed mission.

If we can get the counters fixed and make it so missions are failed if we use up all our lives, respawning would be a good way to "give up" on missions we can't finish without this sort of intervention.

It is kinda unfortunate that we cant skip missions without restarting the server. Tho I guess that's really not an issue.

There's also a ranking system in PO. You get "points" working as a team and staying close to your team mates.
With points you rank up and get access to better weapons and equipment. That's how it should work in theory, I guess.
But to me that sounds a bit too much like an RPG.

I guess we'll just have to experiment.
